GUIDED HIKE

Guided hikes

Luis or Roland organise guided hikes twice a week, showing you the natural and cultural features of our landscape, walking past ancient farms, along quiet paths and over lovely alpine meadows to rustic huts and mountain peaks.

If you love hiking and want to explore the Ultental Valley and its mountains, then the “Seerast” is the right place for you! We are the ideal starting point for many hiking trails, but also for exciting trips up into the high peaks. Put on your backpack and start your hike straight from our hotel! It really couldn’t be easier.

Alternatively, you can catch a bus just outside the hotel. You’ll find well-marked hiking trails everywhere, both down on the valley floor and over on the other side. You can use them at any time of the year, exploring the alpine lakes and pastures, or the mountain huts and peaks of South Tyrol.

And if you don’t feel like going far, you can just stroll around the lake. The path on the valley side has been newly repaired, and starts right by our front door. On the mountain side, you can walk along the Kneipp pathway and then past the old mill. From there, you can see the charming spectacle of the mountains reflected in the lake.

Mountain biking

... and if you’re keen on mountain biking, the Hotel Seerast, in the middle of the Ultental Valley, makes an ideal base for a huge variety of trails through the mountains! At the lower station for the Schwemmalm cable car, you can rent both bikes and e-bikes, with special rates for UltentalCard holders.

WEGLEIT
If you visit the Herbal Kingdom at the Wegleithof, close to our hotel, you’ll learn lots of interesting facts about working with herbs, wool and healing colours.

  • There’s a guided tour of the dyer’s kitchen, the weaving and spinning room and/or the aromatic herb garden.
  • It’s a real journey for your inner and outer well-being ... or a special, creative experience for body, mind and spirit.

The Wegleithof shop is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Every Tuesday by reservation only, and free for our guests.

You can enjoy a day in the spa town of Merano,
in the heart of South Tyrol.

The town has some lovely big parks and green walkways, botanical gardens and lots of water channels. Visitors are attracted by the Alpine-Mediterranean atmosphere and the charm of the old centre, with its mediaeval arcades and splendid buildings dating from the Belle Époque. The stylish shops and many cafés are an invitation to browse or sit and relax.

The thermal baths of Merano have a bathing area with indoor and outdoor pools and are open 365 days a year. Trauttmansdorff castle, to the east of Merano, boasts one of the world’s most beautiful botanical gardens. It consists of more than 80 garden landscapes from all parts of the world, which form a natural amphitheatre around a water lily pond and the castle: once the winter residence of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

Museums in the Ultental Valley

Explore the traditional rural life of the past at the San Nicolò Valley Museum, which is based on a farm. The rooms on display include a lounge and a smokehouse, a bedroom and a dairy. The new visitor centre for the Stelvio National Park in the Ultental Valley is now housed in the century-old “Lahnersäge” (sawmill) in Santa Gertrude, which was active until the 1980s. Be sure to visit the third museum in the Ultental valley: the “Culten” Documentation Centre in Santa Valburga. It provides archaeological evidence of settlements in the Ultental Valley during the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages.
